Reiki lineage is important as it shows you have been attuned by a genuine Master Teacher. In order to pass Reiki to anyone else you must be able to trace your lineage line back to Mikao Usui, the founder and developer of the Usui Reiki system. 

As you can see from the diagram, my own Reiki Teachers, Richard Jones and James Clegg are both linked to Usui through a chain of Reiki Teachers that went before them. This ensures that I can pass on the Usui energy to my students in its traditional form. 

I am profoundly grateful to my  Reiki Teachers, who  studied and drew from other Reiki systems alongside the original Usui lineage, to add incredible depth to their teachings. They passed to me a perfect blend of traditional Japanese, non westernised reiki and intuitive, creative, heart led practice. It was these teachings that formed the foundations of the Matriarchal Reiki System that I use today.
